the surfaces series is an exploration into cultural relationships with natural and urban habitas. influences for this series, include richard misrach's desert canto series, hiroshi sugimoto's sea landscapes, andreas gurski's documentation school, agnes martin paintings, and jorge luis borges' short story the god's script.
for the on being: femine series, i am interested in meditations about visual representations of women. i use one lens and one camera, and tri-x 400. no special setups or lights, make-up or hair, and no photoshop. the format of three chairs is a metaphor for life stages, and location is key to the subject's life. i am interested in exploring unmanipulated and unpolished visual representations of women. portraits are influenced by european painting traditions and by early history of photography.
