After becoming one of Australia’s top fashion designers, Marcus was approached to leave Sydney for Paris. He recognized this as timely and ideal opportunity to take a well deserved break from the frustrations of an economy in free-fall and a future of stagnant growth in Australia’s designer fashion market.
Arriving in Paris in early ’91, Marcus free-lanced on various fashion design projects. One project, consulting for Jacques Pantazes at Jean Patou, led to a collaboration on a major interior design renovation. This became the catalyst for his interest in interior design projects.
After moving to New York in the mid-nineties, he collaborated with the architect Jeffrey Beers, on his first nightclub project Float. In 2002, as the Creative Director of Powder nightclub he worked with Karim Rashid on the design of the club.
Currently, Marcus is a partner in Atelier Malvar + Tusch, an architectural design firm and Director of CD22, a visual communications consultancy.
Clearly, Tusch’s intention is to amplify the space’s content rather than merely drawing attention to the design. He believes projects like this prove one point: the designer is ultimately responsible for what the user experiences.
Tusch’s self-consciously modern approach to design provides an interesting alternative to the dichotomy in current trends of exotic eclecticism and diluted pragmatism. Tusch sets his own formal design parameters, then explores each element within the system.
