Paris based Diane Pernet is a legendary fashion critic and video journalist. A photographer and fashion designer in the l980’s, she’s now a documentary filmmaker, talent scout and fashion blogger on her own site A SHADED VIEW ON FASHION www.ashadedviewonfashion.com. She is also the curator, along with photographer Dino Dinco of “You Wear it Well”,

Designer of her own cult brand in New York for 13 years, Diane Pernet moved to Paris over a decade ago and left the backstage behind to begin a career reporting on fashion. Work for the CBC’s Fashion Files programme lead to an appointment at Joyce magazine where she was fashion editor for five years. At Elle.com, she was reincarnated as “Dr. Diane” dishing out style advice and for VogueParis.com she rated the runways. As one of the world’s most recognisable fashion people, Pernet was asked to make a cameo appearance in Robert Altman’s film, Pret-a-Porter and in Roman Polanski’s The Ninth Gate. Pernet currently contributes as writer and talent scout to several independent fashion and culture magazines around the world.

Gritty diary-style entries and arresting visuals animate this blog devoted to an indispensable and decidedly shaded view on fashion. Created by an insider with one foot firmly planted in the fashion establishment and an ‘access-all-areas’ badge for the underground, Pernet has long been an enthusiast of the moving image. Her experimental style of video portraits and fashion docu-drama mixes lo-fi editing and intimate cinematography with up-to-the-minute technology and pioneering new media. ASVONF beams events as they’re happening in near real-time, without the delay required by print or television and makes ASVONF a leading source of fashion content.

Pernet directed documentary films:Portrait of a Consumer, Adventure of Pleasure Gumball 3000, Fashioned Out for Galeries Lafayette, Mutunt Logos for ModaFad and CFA, 5 years of the Making of the Festival d’Hyeres, among other film projects.

I especially enjoyed the story of the guy in Tibet that downloaded this pattern and sent a note to Galliano and Galliano responded to him. It was very touching.
