I was born in Argentina where I lived most of my life. I started my artistic work at a very young age. I drew and painted while getting inspired in every aspect of my life. I won my first art prize at the age of 6. It was a national art contest where I won first prize for my age bracket. I continued drawing and learning by myself. At the age of 14, I took some art classes. Some years later I decided to become an architect. Once graduated as such, I went ahead and designed and build my own house. The process showed me the important role that design plays in our every-day life. After that I decided to pursuit design for my career. I experimented through a wide range of mediums; from cardboard, wood, metal furniture and lighting objects to mixed media drawings and my personal favorite, photography.
Prior to moving to the U.S., four years ago, I was experimenting in my Buenos Aires design studio with different media but mainly in photography and video as well as design and typography. For several years I dedicated myself to research and investigate european design, specially British and Dutch which in my opinion, are the ones I consider more artistic and intelligent. Those years of experimentation were crucial in the formation of my ideas as well as my taste in art. They helped me develop a solid critical eye. I had the opportunity to attend design conferences in Boston and Berlin. Those trips gave me the opportunity to visit the studios of some of the designers that I admire the most. These events also had a great influence in my design concepts and aesthetics as well as art in general.
The collaborative art group Salita de 19 forms itself in 1998 out of a very spontaneous, casual and somewhat magical way. The name Salita de 19 derives itself from the name given to kindergartens in Argentina. Depending on their age, they would be called Salita de 2, Salita de 3, etc. Salita de 19 was the number given because of the age that my collaborators/apprentices had at the time. During 2000 and 2001 and with the collaboration of the group, I created two shows which combined photography, video and slide projection. After many late nights and weekends we were able to put on very successful shows. We took and rejoiced from the pride drawn by our efforts.
