Trained in fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art, London, Di Mainstone creates interactive couture garments that playfully explore human behaviour. Weaving soft-technologies into a fashion aesthetic, Di delights in the coalition of pioneering architectural silhouettes and curious vintage textiles. Di's eccentric style first caught the attention of press and celebrities during a design partnership with cult UK labels Soochi and Choosi. Her whimsical attire sold internationally at established boutiques such as Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and Urbanoutfitters. Further design collaborations included illustrations at Jimmy Choo, accessories and homewares at UrbanOutfitters, and prints at Topshop. In 2005, following a series of interdisciplinary collaborations, Di joined Sara Diamond at the Banff New Media Institute to create a series of electronic couture garments. Harbouring a new passion for electronic textiles Di subsequently teamed up with Joey Berzowska at XS Labs, Montreal. Together they produced Scorpions. Di Mainstone’s interactive couture has been exhibited widely: Siggraph - Los Angeles, Future Fashion Event - Pisa, Refresh - Montreal, OCAD - Toronto, Next Media - Banff and Wearable Futures - Cardiff. Her portfolio has also led to workshops and lecturing with textile futures students at Central Saint Martins, College of Art, London and both textile and design students at Concordia University, Montreal.
