> Project Description
Emerging from SHOWstudio's interest in and examination of the process of image-making, fashion-in-motion, and the shoot as performance TRANSMISSIONS aims to capture some of the energy of the continuing upsurge in performance related practice that is happening in the contemporary art world. Many artists are using performative elements as a strategy within their larger working method, creating a strong dialogue between music, performance and the object. TRANSMISSIONS will present a series of documents and collaborations that capture a portrait of a scene. Occasionally working with guest curators to programme strands the material will be a mixture of artist-captured footage, short film, ephemera and live imagery.
Tall Tales
Artist Tris Vonna-Michell was a photographer dissatisfied with letting his images do the talking, so he began evolving stories around them. These stories, told while showing photocopies and projected slides and handing out various props (such as an egg timer that determines the length of the story to be told), are dense and rapidly articulated. At London's Cubitt gallery Vonna Mitchell performed in a dark and crowded room, so visibility is low, but the tale and the telling are absolutely worth a listen.
