'In Concert'
Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt
26 September - 2 October 2005

A series of musical performances by renowned artists -both solo and in bands- were staged over seven nights at the Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, 'In Concert' examined the multifarious links between fine art and music. 'Transmissions' offers sound clips of two of its favourite performers: Rodney Graham and Stephen Prina, who performed on the Friday and Saturday nights respectively

30 September, 8pm: Rodney Graham
"Graham has always kept the question open: Am I a musician trapped in an artist's mind or an artist trapped in a musician's body? The question is really irrelevant, but it makes for a lot of interesting art."
Kim Gordon [http://www.bombmagazine.com/graham/graham.html]

Rodney Graham, a Canadian-born (and based) artist, has built a diverse body of work that has earned him enormous recognition as a leading practitioner of his generation. Associated with the so-called Vancouver School that includes Ken Lum, Stan Douglas and Jeff Wall, each renowned collectively for distinctive practices based on photography. Rodney Graham has long held a dual interest in music and visual practice. In the 1970s he was part of the Vancouver's punk new wave performing with UJ3RK5 ("you jerks", with Wall), then with the band Volumizer, and solo as a singer-songwriter. His discography and play-list equal an extensive list of international group and solo exhibitions he has participated in. Graham's points of reference range from the philosophical to the musical, tangents which coalesce in a body of work that is intellectual, absurd, and entertaining.

01 October, 8pm: Stephen Prina
Stephen Prina (born 1954, Illinois, based in LA) has exhibited internationally over the past twenty years including at Documenta IX and the Venice Biennale (1990). His images, installations, music and other performances often take as their starting point well known works from literature, music, film and philosophy in order to examine the ritual of creating cultural value. Prina began making music during the mid-1990s, with the band Red Krayola. His solo debut 'Push Comes to Love' appeared on Drag City in early 1999. In 2003, Prina received a Guggenheim Fellowship and is currently professor of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University. For 'In Concert' he presented new compositions for vocals, piano and guitar.
