The Three Cities
London -The Warehouse
3 Durham Yard, E2
Curated by Gyonata Bonvicini, Anna-Catharina Gebbers and Paolo Zani

"The Three Cities" was a tripartite exhibition that appeared in three city locations accross Europe, each on the occasion of a major temprary art event, and planned in order to examine the paramenters of this hyped transitory world. Focussing on performativity as "the most important formal discourse in contemporary art", the artists were chosen to illustrate the breadth of variety within this genre. The curators make claims for performance "obviating the need for galleries, brokers or institutions" and taking the work "directly to the public". With three curators and three locations chosen for their proximity to huge art events, and accepting audiences made up of the same pre-interested crowds there would seem to be the usual machinations at play, however, a second claim about "the pace, thatricality, vanity and volatility" of the art world being exemplified and mirrored in theatrical practice (and mirroring strong themes in the Zola book of the title), is very pertinent. Following are documents of Sue Tompkins 'More Cola Wars', Ulla von Brandenburg and Pablo Bronstein's performance's.
