“Slow Dance Club”
Los Super Elegantes
Bistrotheque
Wadeson Street, London
Sunday 11th June, 2006
Our second visit to the world of Los Super Elegantes, this time to capture a repeat London outing of their charming Slow Dance Club. Made very successfully as a project for the Frieze Art Fair back in 2005 in a specially created temporary club space, this time they take advantage of an existing venue. In the darkened bunker-like backspace of the east end’s twenty first century cabaret-restaurant Bistrotheque, they imbued a softness to the space with candle-lit seating areas surrounding a central, raised dance floor. Taking it in turns to play the romantic music or to approach people to get up and slow dance with them under the glitter ball, Los Super Elegantes' Milena Muzquiz and Martiniano Lopez-Crozet intended Slow Dance Club to be a place for people to share a small moment of intimacy with a stranger. Music ranged from the nostalgic to the inspired: Spandau Ballet to the Durutti Column.
