LUCY ORTA: TRANSGRESSING FASHION
LIVE IMAGING: 17:30 - 21:00 GMT (18:30 - 22:00 UK) Jun.25 2004
In response to the formal hand over of power in Iraq by the occupation forces on 30 June, and as part of Architecture Week 2004, artist Lucy Orta is choreographing a 'social sculpture' in the galleries of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. 50 participants will be clothed in specially designed uniform, which uses the powerful symbolism of combat gear, to question and provoke thoughts on peace.

Live imagery from the event during the evening of Friday 25th June at the V&A Museum will be taken by photographers Jason Evans, and duo Tim and Barry, who will send picture/message images live from in and around the installation.
Audience response will be gathered by photographers Tim and Barry by video phone - capturing short sound and motion clips of immediate reactions during the event, relayed direct to the site.
An numbered edition design for a 'protest' t-shirt can be downloaded for one week only, encouraging viewers who wish to participate in the statement to wear it on Iraq hand over day.
SHOWstudio Arts Editor, Christabel Stewart poses some questions to Lucy Orta, exploring her position as a practitioner at a 'nexus' between art, fashion and architecture.
A presentation of Orta's visual and textual research exposes the research and reasoning behind the messages incorporated in the clothing graphics used in the performance, assembled into an interactive screen show
