Ten creative expert superstars from the worlds of photography, fashion, design, retail and modelling were chosen to scrutinise and vote on each look. They cast their vote by playing the HOT OR NOT? game and making their favourite three selections, which are in the panel picks section.
NICK KNIGHT: "Stylish Snapper"
Nick Knight is among the most influential, technologically innovative and politicised contemporary photographers. His groundbreaking fashion imagery for magazines including Vogue, Dazed & Confused, W and i-D, his landmark advertising campaigns for brands including Christian Dior, Levi Strauss, Jil Sander and Yohji Yamamoto and work for music clients such as Björk, David Bowie, Kylie and Massive Attack have earned him many awards and placed his imagery in numerous historical books and international museum collections.
PETER JENSEN: "Dapper Dane"
Peter Jensen is a Danish-born, London-based designer who is acclaimed for his inspired use of research and the handcrafted aesthetic of his garments. His understated men and womenswear collections are each based on historical and fictional women, which have ranged from gymnast Olga Korbut and the avant-garde lesbian heiress Gertrude Stein, to artists Cindy Sherman and Tina Barney to the disgraced Olympic ice-skater Tonya Harding.
LILY COLE: "Clever Clogs Flame-Haired Beauty"
Lily Cole is a London-based model whose incredible success over the past five years illustrates fashion's focus on younger faces and red hair during that period. Cole has appeared on the cover of all the international glossy magazines, on catwalks for leading fashion designers including Alexander McQueen and Christian Dior and in advertising campaigns for brands including Prada, Chanel and Hermès. Next year she plans to take a break from fashion to pursue her studies at Cambridge University.
SARAH (COLETTE): "Parisian Style Guru"
Sarah from Colette is the buyer and Art Director of the Parisian concept store 'Colette', located on Rue St.-Honoré in Paris. Defined by four sub-headings 'style', 'design', 'art' and 'food', Colette has subsequently become much more than a shop, branching out into exhibitions, events and collaborative projects worldwide. The store is spread over three floors and stocks an eclectic selection of cosmetics, food and home wear as well as clothing and accessories by fashion brands including Lanvin, Marni, Prada, Miu Miu, Dries van Noten, Raf Simons and Comme des Garçons and an interesting selection of pieces by emerging designers. The store also houses a temporary exhibitions space that displays artwork by young artists alongside a selection of books, magazines and music.
JUN TAKAHASHI:
"Prince of the Strange And The Beautiful"
Jun Takahashi is a founder and head designer of cult Japanese label 'Undercover'. Born in Kiryu, Japan in 1969, Takahashi studied Fashion Design at the Bunka Academy of Fashion where he founded the 'Undercover' brand. He debuted his first collection in Tokyo in March 2004 and now shows the label twice a year during Paris Fashion Week. Renowned for his unique sense of street fashion, the use of 'weird and wonderful' references and the incorporation of alternative headgear in his designs, Takahashi's Undercover label has received critical acclaim from both the press and notable designers including Rei Kawakubo and Miuccia Prada.
MIHO KINOMURA:
"Jet setting Film-World Glamourpuss"
Miho Kinomura is a Creative Director and Film Director, who currently divides her time between studios in New York and Tokyo. She began her career working as a fashion designer in Japan, before moving to New York in 1990 where she set up her production company 'Studio D.O.G INC'. Alongside producing and directing numerous fashion related advertisements for clients including Shiseido, Parco and Swarovski, Kinomura has created music videos for numerous Tokyo-based artists. She is also responsible for introducing new photographic talent to the Japanese market, namely Ellen Von Unworth, Elaine Constantine and David Lachapelle.
KAZUYOSHI MINAMAGOE:
"Tip-top Tokyo Trendsetter"
Born in 1962, Kazuyoshi Minamimagoe began working as a womenswear buyer in chief in 1989, where he became renowned for discovering and introducing new design talent to the Japanese market and was appointed Womenswear Creative Director at the BEAMS store in 2004. He also writes for magazines including Soen and WWD, organises events and gives lectures at numerous institutions.
KENSUI ARAO: "Supercool Creative Kingpin"
Kensui Arao is the Executive Creative Director of Japanese division of the global advertising and public relations company Publicis. Arao began his career working as a Writer and Associate Creative Director at McCann Erickson in Japan, and later joined Saatchi & Saatchi, TBWA and throughout this period, has been involved in creative, innovative solutions for a wide range of clients including Emirates, Air France, Adidas, Polaroid, INTREL Centrino mobile technology, Havana Club and FIFA.
HIROSHI KUBO:
"Big BEAMS Boss, Knows His Stuff"
Hiroshi Kubo is Menswear Creative Director at the BEAMS store in Japan. Kubo began working at the company part-time, during his university studies and after his graduation in 1985, was taken on as a full-time staff member. During this time, he has held numerous prominent positions within the store including Shop Manager of International Gallery at BEAMS. As Menswear Creative Director, he has also been responsible for establishing the successful 'BEAMS BOY' range.
