Kate Phelan and the Vogue team enter the SHOWstudio live space for three days to shoot the prevailing themes from the Autumn/Winter '04 collections for the magazine's September issue. Fashion's inextricable relationship with technology has long been a theme for garment design: perhaps most associated with the space-age aesthetics of Cardin or Courrèges. The current preoccupation treads new ground, however, applying computer-generated prints to formal shapes -as at Balenciaga or Giles Deacon- or using computer-aided cutting or draping techniques, as at Hussein Chalayan, Gucci and Lanvin. For this story Nick Knight, aided by inspirational set designers Stevie Stewart and David Holah, situates the garments in the most formally modern of settings, adorning the SHOWstudio space with contemporary accessories, including a spectacular chandelier by Tord Boontje.
