Picture/Message

Over a four-day period from 8-12 October 2003, photographer David Weightman will be broadcasting images live from Paris Fashion Week on SHOWstudio. If you're expecting to get a sneak preview of what you will be wearing next Spring/Summer, however, prepare to be disappointed. Armed with SHOWstudio's camera phone, Weightman will have his lens firmly fixed on the front row fashionistas and party people, rather than the catwalk itself. As a homage to 'Peeping Tom', Michael Powell's 1960 film in which lead character Mark Lewis forces his victims to watch themselves as he stabs them with a leg of his tripod, Weightman has attached a mirror to the front of the camera. By confronting them with their own appearance at the moment of image-capture, the photographer hopes to give his subjects - preoccupied with checking each other out from across the catwalk - a salutary moment of self-reflection.
