Madras
29 November - 3 December 2004
The catwalk presentation, magazine interpretation and retail 'lives' of a fashion collection are industry staples with which we are all too familiar. The development of ideas and sourcing of fabrics that precede any of this is a closely-guarded secret, however, deliberately mystified to guarantee that the collection's unveiling will be a genuine surprise to the competition and buyers alike.
Always one to go her own sweet way, designer Jessica Ogden has offered to shed light on this sacred territory of new ideas. Accompany Ogden on her weeklong trip to Chennai (formerly Madras), India, via this sequence of captioned images, which will be sent to SHOWstudio daily. In Chennai to research her next collection for label Jessica Ogden/Jean Touitou, Ogden will visit the city's wonderful fabric markets to purchase the actual material that will make up the garments, drawing inspiration from the amazing surroundings.
