About The Project

Partnering with VMAN and Ford Models, in May and June 2009 SHOWstudio offered our male viewers the chance to become the next face of men's fashion. Chosen from over a thousand entrants by Nick Knight and Simon Foxton, our first finalist D'Marco Jones will be shot, with our cameras broadcasting every move. A real-life real-time editorial will unfold before your very eyes as we upload Nick Knight's unretouched images live.

The Final Shot
By SHOWstudio, 22:18 Mon 06 Jul 2009

After thirteen hours on set and five of Simon Foxton's finest, our VMAN model search finalist D'Marco Jones has finished our days shoot and his first time in front of Nick Knight's lens. Our live stream is now over - but if you managed to miss our live split-screen stream broadcasting all the backstage and on set action, our project gallery has been updated (and indeed inundated!) with all the images from the shoot. Uncensored, unretouched and real-time, our images provide a sneak peek at the outfits which will make their final glossy outing later this year when VMAN 15 hits newsstands.

I’m been looking at VMAN magazine for years, I have never seen an African American man on the cover and I am so impressed. This is about to be history for your magazine and I can’t wait to see it.

I think he looks awesome. He's very deserving of it, God is truly looking out for Demarco Jones... I love it

From what I've heard, the other finalist wasn't able to make the shoot and so the search for the second finalist is back on. I've just spent the day sorting through a lot of the pages, and have come across two that I find agreeable.

My vote: Garrett Maddox/ Ryan Faucett. Both models have a look that is very becoming, and I think would be amazing in terms of the magazine and the industry.

Regarding Demarco Jones:

I agree that there is a lesser degree of ethnic diversity than there would be in an ideal world, but I don't agree that this is the model for it. I disagree in that his isn't truly all that unique. He does have a wonderful smile, however he's not invoked much expression or intensity in his look. Not very diverse or expressive is he? BUT, of course, that's entirely opinion and the few of you other posters seem to like him, so that's quite all right.

Anyway, best of luck with the search. :)

He looks frightfully short. He's 5 foot 11 you say...?

Only 5'5" Devon Aoki

.... it is often a pity indeed that the 'ethnic' issue seems to cloud the element of critic where critic is due ... but in all honesty one must agree at least that this angle of composition combined with the styling doesn't do anything at all to improve the fact of his length at least visually .... Nothing wrong with being short by the way ! ... however this shot of him does not seem to work any miracles at all when it comes to 'model aesthetics' and body proportions to inspire the viewer!
In any case it is great to see that he has the opportunity to have it a go and show what he can achieve in front of the camera .
