For the 2007 CFDA Awards, America’s most prestigious fashion awards ceremony, Nick Knight was asked to make a film featuring the nominees for the Best Womenswear Designer category, a list that included Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler and Oscar de la Renta. On Friday 20 April SHOWstudio broadcasted the making of the film from a London-based studio, starring model Agyness Deyn who wore creations from each designer’s last two seasons’ collections. The finished film was later shown on the SHOWstudio website at the time of the CFDA awards ceremony in June.

The Nominees Film

Last night our film The Nominees was unveiled before the cream of the US fashion industry at the 25th Anniversary of the CDFA Fashion Awards, held at the magnificent New York Public Library. Of the three nominees showcased by the lithe and lovely Agyness Deyn, it was Oscar de la Renta and Proenza Schouler who scooped the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year award in a tie.

Other winners included Ralph Lauren, who took Menswear Designer of the Year and Derek Lam the Accessories. Swarovski are the awards' major sponsor and they had three awards of their own: the Womenswear, which was won by Phillip Lim; Mens, which was won by Rag & Bone and the Accessories, which went to Loeffler Randall.

Of course, some awards were determined in advance: Pierre Cardin received the 'International Award', whilst Robert Lee Morris got the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. No strangers to working together, Ralph Lauren got American Fashion Legend Award and photographer Patrick Demarchelier the Eleanor Lambert Award. The penultimate Eugenia Sheppard award went to fashion writer Robin Givhan before the grand finalé where the Board of Director’s Award was handed to tireless promoter of all things Red, Bono.
