‘Shooting’

by Zora Star

Dear Nick,

I'm sorry that I passed the deadline.

I was so excited and flattered that you asked me to contribute. But I didn't know what to do.
Fashion and Politics!? What a difficult subject.

I thought of my own ignorance, and the ignorance and care-free attitude that I have encountered in the fashion business towards politics.

In collaboration with Julien Bouillon, my boyfriend and partner, we decided to film myself in front of a T.V. listening to the news on Kenya, my father's home.

As we worked on the video the violence in Kenya was getting worse and I was realising more and more how much fashion has to do with politics. The passivity of the video became, to say the least, uncomfortable, and I thought not to send you the movie. My father had an accident two weeks ago in Nairobi, he is going to be O.K. but I think he would have wanted me to send the video to you.

You can broadcast it if you like, but if you don't I won't be offended. I mostly wanted to let you know that your invitation didn't leave me indifferent.

With kind regards,
Zora
