‘Bela Gypsy’ by Julien D'Ys and Ilker Akyol
Our fourth week of Political Fashion opens with a film by Julien D’Ys and Ilker Akyol: ‘Bela Gypsy’ explores itinerant Romani culture, as represented through the romantic, sepia-toned figure of the traveller.
I like idea of representing fashion as a gypsy. It must seem appropriate if like Julian d'ys you are travelling all the time.It is something that we forget that for a lot of people in the fashion world they are constantly travelling. You hear bands complaining about being 'on the road', well for models , make up artists and hairdressers they can spend most of their year travelling from place to place. i should imagine it gives a feeling of homelessness and detachment that most of us who have more static domestic arrangements.
Beautiful the idea of purification by milk.Isn't it a north african tradition/belief?
