Project Launch

Amidst this week’s pictorial, written and audible coverage of Paris Fashion Week, courtesy of our Fashion Director, Alex Fury and model Lily Donaldson, we are pleased to launch, Perroquet, a recent body of work by the Norwegian fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø. Feted for his striking editorial and campaign imagery, here Sundsbø has moved into new territory, inspired by a lifelong fascination with science photography, nature documentaries and copies of The National Geographic. With the parroquet as its central focus, the intriguing study comprises eight film shorts and a selection of photographs, each of which depict the bird mid-flight, in all its glory. Despite the unconventional subject matter, the resultant motion and still images all bear the hallmarks -be it the vivid colour palette or the incorporation of shadow- of a Sølve Sundsbø image.

The photos are beautiful, the movies are fabulous, but why not call them what they are? These birds are macaws... large, beautiful macaws.
