Last Day of Live Lily!

It's our third (and final) day on set of Nick Knight's Let There Be Light shoot and we've just switched on the live stream so tune in to catch sight of Lily in her first look of the day. There's plenty of action to pack in before the day is over: we still have three looks left to shoot and our Fashion Director, Alex Fury is keen to interview as many members of the team as possible (make-up artist Val Garland and Nick's 1st assistant, Ruth Hogben have both agreed). And, if that's not enough to satisfy your fashion thirst, we've already earmarked a few items from Jonathan's rail each of which will be given a good old verbal examination by Alex, in between shots.

If you missed any action over the last few days be sure to check out our highlights, incorporating the first seven looks (Lanvin, Balenciaga, Prada, Christian Dior, Maison Martin Margiela, Raf Simons...) and an interview with our very own Nick Knight.

While we were all breaking for lunch, Nick took the opportunity to sign some of his prints (including 'Susie Smoking' from 1988) which are being sold in an upcoming auction at Phillips de Pury in London on 22nd November at 3pm.

Well I saw that its a print of a classic image of Nick's, so is it a pressie for someone??anyway I have a question for Ruth, if and when she is interviewed....With regard to the lighting, Im curious that the main flash head didint seem to fire, on quite a regular basis...maybe Im wrong coz no-one seemed to fix anything....bit weird though, I could hear the shutter firing yet no flash, almost every other shot? It might just be the delay on my internet connection missing it though...Please can you explain the reason for the small soft box on the floor during the entire shoot? Im guessing its for fill-in, but would that be half a stop under the main light? And how necessary is it, as the main light seems big enough to light Lily on its own? Also are the hidden back lights firing? I cant tell, but again how many stops over the main light would they be, two? Oh, and one more anorak question for now, I see that you arent using Photoshop on the images, is that Aperture or Lightroom or something? Just wondered why you prefer that to Photoshop, or does that package come with the digital back? Sorry for my boring questions, but a techie might find them interesting...Many thanks. Richard

If u r techie don't you know that a flash fires faster than a video camera?

2 me they all look a bit busy for stoopid questions.

I didnt say I was a techie, Im just trying to learn, I see most of the flashes, so Im not sure what the problem was,but thanks for your comment. I dont expect immediate answers I know the team is busy, but I thought we were encouraged to ask questions in order to learn, as Nick said on his interview, he is happy to answer questions from people who are interested. And as no-one else seems to be posting anything, I thought Id ask.

Ps. I saw on twitter that Alex might be interviewing Ruth, Nicks first assistant, so I thought Id ask some lighting questions....Im sorry that you have a problem with my "stoopid" questions, but the whole reason for these live streams is interaction with Nick and his team.

Dear Richard,
I am delighted you are interested in the shoot I am sorry I haven't managed to reply to your questions yet, as after the "Light" shoot ended last night I went on to do a 3D scan of Lily that took us to a midnight finnish and I have been shooting for Vogue all today and again tomorrow so I am a little tired at the moment. Hopefully I will have a quiet moment this weekend to reply to you.
Thanks for tuning in.
Nick

hello
im replying to your question :"Please can you explain the reason for the small soft box on the floor during the entire shoot?"

your right, the other fill is big enough to light lily on it's own, the soft box on the floor is blocking light from her feet and lower shins. if you look at the pictres of her where she's wearing the Balenciaga shoe socks,i think they are, you'll notice the shadow cast on her feet.

simple, effective techniques'hh?
