Girls will be boys

The intrigue of androgyny has been a style-staple throughout the twentieth century - think of Saint Laurent's Smokings, Chanel and her Matelot jerseys - today, that whole 'boy-girl' thing retains its undeniable allure. Illustrating this point perfectly is this short film, another offshoot from Nick Knight's April British Vogue editorials. Hard lines and a clean, strict silhouette are the androgynous order of the day, with starched white shirts, boyish trousers and tousled hair thrown in the gender-blender with fashion's favourite 21st-century tomboy, Freja Beha Erichsen.

I love the way Freja responds to the soundtrack which I guess must have been added after the shoot. It is an amazing and beautifully clever piece of editing. Who edited it?

The amazingness of androgony has delighted and surprised my inhibitions for a while now. What once were gender boundaries in the early periods of our history have long since perished. Women no longer have to wear skirts but now they can too wear trousers. Women once confined to that of a dress can also wear a pants suit and a vest due to some cutting edge designers. Ive also seen how this effects men as well, Marc Jacobs has been recently releasing a magazine page advertisement that depicts a man in a dress or skirt and blouse holding a purse. The advertisement is quite moving and entertaining. It shows how we have progressed as a society , pushing the envelope and moving differences, and genders aside to show beautiful fashion on whatever form you would like. In history I can remember one specific individual who also did this on a broad national scale. One of the king Louis Im not sure exactly which but he too dressed androgynously . He was sometimes depicted wearing a petticoat or just trousers of sorts or both, quite freeing. I enjoy how fashion has begun to break out and take the tabooness away from certain things. Fashion should be freeing, should allow an individual to express themselves despite what sex they are. The efforts from all these designers are so epic , even in the threat of bad times, the light that shines from the acceptance of person, creativity, art , and love is emitted through this. It spreads a message of hope for fashion. The clothing shines in itself and on the individual, the effort is amazing as well as the soundtrack, breathtaking. Many designers should take note of this style, and learn how breaking away from traditional can be completely remarkable. With a free mind one can design anything, With a free heart one can design wholely, With a free mind one can design the world with conscious of who or what may disapprove. Fashion is about breaking boundaries. Well done!
