Junya Watanabe is renowned for his avant-garde style, in particular his exploration of new cutting concepts, his ingenious sourcing of fabrics and innovative draping techniques. Watanabe’s submission, a dress from his Autumn/Winter 2005 collection, is part pretty fifties prom, part punk camisole in a genuinely modern reworking of traditional couture tailoring.
Entries will be judged by a panel of fashion experts including Nick Knight, Alistair O'Neill (Senior Lecturer & Senior Research Fellow of Fashion History and Theory at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design) Penny Martin (Rootstein Hopkins Chair of Fashion Imagery at the London College of Fashion) and Claire Catterall (Curator at Somerset).
The winning garments will be featured in SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution at Somerset House 18 September - 20 December 2009.
