Marios Schwab on the 6th Day of Christmas
We close 2008 with our latest Christmastide contribution from Marios Schwab and a look back at one of the strongest and most inspired collections of the year. Schwab took this opportunity to allow SHOWstudio viewers free reign around one of the mesmerising William Morris-inspired patterns devised with artist Tom Gallant for his standout A/W 2008 'Yellow Wallpaper' collection: a print already mind-boggling in its complexity and made even more so when refracted by the Swarovski crystal facets. 'Light' was our theme for this selection, and indeed at first glance those ornate Victoriana arabesques in soft pinks and peaches are the epitome of fragile, ladylike excess. But if you take a closer look at this example of the smothering, hypnotic hybrid flesh-foliate patterns that populated Schwab's collection, all is not as sweet as it may immediately appear...
