SHOWstudio

ARNHEM

About

For the first time SHOWstudio did live coverage of the Arnhem Fashion Biennale, possibly one of the best places in Europe to see what’s happening in the world of art and fashion crossover. The exposition, which took the theme of ‘Happy Fashion’ for 2007, showcased a host of designers, some new, some more established, in a highly unusual ‘multi-sensory’ setting. Art Director Fred Butler was there to send us all her impressions of the event via picture phone.

Rainbows on the Rijn

It is a multi-sensory landscape.....sounds, smells, textures and temperatures are all altered along the path of each installation.........of course a personal favourite being displays of REAL RAINBOW ROSES!

How extraordinary! Not quite sure if I was witnessing art or artifice, I skipped out of Reader's Membership duties for a brief moment and consulted Encyclopedia Britannica to see if there was such a thing as a 'Rainbow Rose'. It seems that they are produced by exposing different parts of the root to compound dyes and that Emily Dickinson once penned an poem to them.

But was it as good as Fred Butler's photograph?

I saw this on a television show in japan about new inventions. It was amazing, every petal you pull off is a different colour, apparently they are all natural.

The program also showcased special shoes for walking up and down hills (wedges on the heel for walking up, and on the front for walking down.. )
They may not be that practical, but they definitely made my day!
