080 BARCELONA

About

It has been said that Catalonia’s longstanding separatist identity is best characterised by its offerings to the creative arts. The capital, Barcelona has been ascribed a design temperament at odds with the rest of Spain – a mixture of ‘Reason and Craziness,’ Seny i Rauxa, that delights in the biomorphic forms of art-nouveau and surrealism yet which maintains an unwavering reputation for technical excellence. Fashion has been central to Barcelona’s mercantile history since the end of the eighteenth century with its textile industry maintaining it as a hub for high quality clothing production. From the 9th to the 11th July Andrew Gow will be there offering coverage of the city's fashion week.

Jose Castro's pink sisterhood

Lee Carter of Hintmag warned me Jose's presentations are noted for their exceptional showmanship so I had to be vigilant my front row seat wasn't nabbed whilst noseying backstage. The collection turned out to be a captivating crescendo of camp with pink chiffon ruffle dresses appearing to coccoon larger and larger around a procession of calcimined girls. There was also accomplished tailoring, scalloped trouser legs that jiggled underneath gaping trouser pockets and fedoras worn playfully above the head rather than on. Sentimental, saccharine, almost smutty in its vie en rose glut, this was the work of a man who idolises women, a clear devotee to the erotic artform of femininity.

Sorry, maybe my previuos post could sound a little bit raw, but I'm too angry because of what I've seen at 080 Barcelona. Castro is the rising star of Catalonian goverment's masterplan for kicking its fashion product internationally, he gets all the media attention and even fabrics for free. And he has 'earned' a place at the Carrousel du Louvre prêt-à-porter official schudele just with a fingers snap. So I feel absolutely cheated with his V&R ripp-off. To be honest, I must say I truly believe Castro is a hard worker, he got the skills and he's really talented, so I can't understand why he still needs to do this.
Anyway, I have the feeling that Andrew and I have seen two different events. I really appreciate his work, but I'm also miss some things in his reports, such as the'Crossing' project, a superb fashion window displayed all over the Raval neighbourhood, showing the works of Gerard Uferas, Miguel Villalobos, JD Ferguson, Gauthier Gallet and more curated by Carlos Ramirez and Marta Camps. Cause 080 Barcelona was (is) not only about the catwalk. Above all, is mostly about turism... ;)

Vaya the fucker...

The terrible facker
(o debería firmar como lénfanterrible facker??)
