FASH OFF, A QUESTION FOR SHOWSTUDIO:

Actually, you have never noticed it from me, and if you have, then it's purely me being parodic. I would & will never use the term "creatives" in the context in which you claim; you see the inverted commas are connotative, not denotative. Fashion can be the most perverse & interesting industry, but also the most snobby: creativity for me is how people approach the environment in which they are placed.

But on another level alone, I would like to know where you have deduced from (purely) the term "creatives" that I have a rigid definition of what is & isn't creative? If you are purely suggesting this via the usage of the word, then I would ask you what would adjective would you like to be used? It's a utopian ideal to argue that no one should be aggregated or stratified, but it happens. Get over it.

Eucinpyos, you can tell you aren't from London, because arguring you "think a lot of the people that have a problem with Gareth and !WOWOW! and the London Party Scene maybe feel a little elite in their fashion/"creative" bubble?" is credulous. I would ask have you ever seen these people before? They are the most cliquey people IN London. Hang out in Kokon To Zai one day, or maybe at SuperSuper magazines, I'm sure they won't embrace you if you don't fit into their very defined aesthetic (I mean, have you seen the pics, notwithstanding the token Sunderland shots, can you see anyone within the polaroids that doesn't fit into the crazy club kids aesthetic?) And I can't even be bothered to talk about my supposed "jealousy" again.

A: After re-reading your use of creative, I will apologize, although I think I was more directly looking at William in his use.

ANYWAY, I actually spent two months in London and funny enough for you, had a chance to actually meet a ton of people affiliated with !WOWOW!/SuperSuper, went to one of their huge parties, spent some time at the squat, and hung out with a few of them on a regular basis. I also had the pleasure of meeting Molaroid. I don't know if you or any of the other naysayers on here know them personally, but I think that if you did [instead of just assuming shit] you'd probably be biting your tongue too.

Also, I don't think I fit into their aesthetic. Unless Matthew Stone had a secret vote where they said that they'd let me hang out cause I wore a Piano Keys scarf. More stupid assumptions from you.

And my MAIN point was for you to shut the hell up and do something on your own. So start now, please, I'm about to lose more hair over this.

Stop whining, babies. Use your oversized brains. Figure it out.

END OF DISCUSSION FROM ME, THANK YOU.

Why don't you shut up, your logic is working backwards now, what with this obsession that you can't critique if you ain't doing something "creative" - maybe I work in the toilets at the local YMCA, maybe I'm John Galliano. So fuck.

Regardless, if you read my previous postings, you will see that the crux of my latter argument(s) was/were that these obsessions with the eighties club kids & Bowery revivalism/Pugh/!wowwow! were actually beginning to become counter-active through stifling other London-based designers. There is an oligarchy in London, and it's these fashion editors, club kids and general hangers-on who promote this really stylised ideal of crazy clubwear (I'm 22, go out in London often, and I've never seen anyone dress like that - but it's become almost a promotion of the London music scene as well as the fashion one, and in that sense it couldn't be more wrong.) Look at Penny's argument on SHOWstudio's obsession with all things Pugh; she claimed that London was "conservative" in comparison to this movement. I guess when it comes down to it, me & you (& Penny) have differing outlooks on creativity & fashion.

But I'll await your arrival in London to transform "the scene." In the meantime, say hello to Matthew for me, I hear he's now going about trying to mix records, and that he can dj as well as he can take an interesting photograph.

Besos...

Where does she say London is conservative? I read that as 'Global fashion'. I'm relishing every word of your undergraduate utilisation of 'Image, Music, Text', though.

I wasn't in any way comparing Wowwow to punk ,I wascomparing the tone of the reactions to both things, and almost as if to prove my point the reaction was immediately to tell me to fuck off.My problem with all these unpleasant angry and vicious attacks is that as far as I see it Gareth and friends are just enjoying themselves ,and for some reason there is little other evidence of this in the fashion industry.I would put it to you that is the simple reason magazines and S/s are interested in it, it's love of dressing up,experimentig with fashions and make up are genuine and exactlly the sort of enthusiasm that is so lacking in commercial fashion.I din't think Gareth is making money ,S/s is run for love of art, so cut them some slack and try to be supportive not hostile.

and can I just ad please can we keep our responses civil. This forum can be very exciting to contribute to but can also be very intimidating. It is much more entertaining when more people join in ,but being verbally abused does not make me feel like continuing to post comments and I should imagine this must be the same for many other people. If you keep on in this way you will just be left slagging off each other and as you clearly have some interesting and intelligent points to make that would be a shame!

By 'creatives' i simply meant people who work in the creative industry, I.E all of our peers and companions. i do apologise if coming up with a group term for graphic designers to people who make shoes offends.
And I also can't believe that with all the people who were originally contributing to this thread kept on saying they wanted it to remain civil so we could hear from the creators of the project, it still turned into a playground bun fight.

back to the original point

it does seem strange that all the inspiration behind gareth's work seems to be dressing up in fancy dress and going back to see his folks every now and then....

i actually think his work is good, seems interesting and refreshing....even though i dont understand it fully , which is surely the point of his showstudio project...

He has been given this platform by showstudio, which he has agreed to take part in, i understand he is giving up his free time for this, but in doing so surely he should produce something that gives insight into his work.

At the moment it is just a few snaps of his friends and family.

Now im sure there is more to it than that, and think that he should give more, if he agreed to do this project. The fact they are polaroids ( which showstudio seem to think gareth invented ) does not make any difference whatsoever.

I realise that the project is not over yet, and maybe this was just a light intro for things to come.....

anyhows im hoping there is more to it, for his sake as well as ours...

I think its great to be enthuisiastic about a project and its team and editors would have to be 100% behind it or they wouldnt publish it (most of the time...).

Also, I think people who interact with this site have strong opinions on everything as we can see from the comments above and that is a good thing.

A bad thing is when someone has a point that is so polarised from someone else that we are left with comments that neither party would be willing to say face to face but with anonymity of the web we can be free to sling mud and profanity at the wall and see what gets picked up and slung back.

Its not nice and it certainly isnt professional in any way. I agree I dont like the work or the project and I we can all make a comment on how bad it is, how chav, how great and refreshing it is, but lets have one thing in the back of our mind.

Its just fashion.

It'll change in a few months. Something new will come out.

Someone new will be flavour of the month. A new designer will come along and get into the world "Sell-ebrity" and change the world. There will be a bigger set of boobs on big brother and more stupid things being said or done that gets people killed in far away places.

It's all relative.

Agree to disagree, everyone can save face and we can have a civil conversation about things. We all have inifite possibilities, look at the positive things that are happening rather than how shit things are.

Dont know if anyones going to read all this but count to ten before we start replying is a good start.
