Just finished reading a book on him. He is an interesting film maker, his work has been very consistent. He had spent 6 years jobless before his first feature "Pushing Hand", and since then he has been making one delicate and profound film after another, and has had one success after another. This book is about his journey from making of "Brokeback Mountain" to "Lust, Caution". I think his version of "Lust" is a lot warmer than the author would have liked it. After all, Ang Lee is a much more warm person than the woman who wrote "Lust, Caution", Cheung I Ling.

I thought he gave away too much of how the feel of "Lust, Caution" would be by the very first scene with the close up of the canine. I wished he didn't give too much indication, it's almost too obvious. Like the female lead how she cried watching a movie in the dark, it's too detailed, too obvious in some areas.

Tang Wei is being punished now by the Chinese gov't because of her role as a Japanese sympathizer, her ad endorsements are not allowed to air in China.

I should say the Chinese gov't sees her character as a sympathizer to the Japanese regime. It's very unfair the gov't singled her out, when Tony Leung played a traitor. I am not saying he should be banned too, but the script was approved by official in China before the production started, it's really unfair after all that to come back and punish those involved in the production.
