I have just seen the series of pictures in Dazed Confused Feb 2007 looking at retinas from the eyes of people that Rankin has taken which is forming part of his latest exhibition in London.
I love the pictures with the soft colours and beautifull natural patterns individual to each person in shapes form.
Unusual but effective.I would like to go and see it.?

If you check out Dazed and Confused for February or the one with the cover of the guy with the yellow shirt( sent out just after Christmas) it will have details for the exhibition that takes place in London in February.
I should think that there will possibly be a further spread in Dazed and Confused.
I think that these are great pictures interesting and colurefull.
And try the links mentioned by the guys above.

In a news paper report yesterday Rankin says that he has been inspired by Bailey and Avendon.
One for Ben Morris, he also said that if he sees anyone confront him with a ring flash he will go mad in so many words, so maby Rankin has been reading some of the blog in this forum.
Good luck Rankin with the exhibition in February at the Gallery in London. And can we have a quick flash.?

I have been following fashion photography now for about 6 years. When I first became interested in 'being' a fashion photographer (which I am quietly embarrased about)a fellow student introduced me to Rankins book 'celebritation'. I remember thinking wow, rankin is a great fashion photographer. I imediately arranged a weeks work experience with him and as a result had my first experience assisting a photographer on various shoots. 6 years later with a wealth of self tuition and endless research into the history of fashion photography I now realise that the man is a complete self publicist. Nothing more, nothing less! Without his co-founder Jefferson Hack (who is a much nicer person than Rankin himself)I strongly beleive he would be in the same place as many of the struggeling photographers in London. I can not remember the last time I bought Dazed and did'nt see some form of self promotion. It is embarrasing. Technically he has got better, as all of us do but the fact that he can broadcast himself to thousands means that he has accustomed friends who also have power i.e alex proud, katy england and so can produce pretty images for the world to see etc etc He threw a camera at me once and said "good catch, that camera is worth more than you!" the man has an ego like you would'nt believe and to put in into context I very recently had the absolute pleasure of spending the day working with Nick Knight. The most influencial photographer to ever live and as soon as I tried to compliment him the first thing he did was take my comment and focus the attention on the designer we were working with. Rankin has had no influence on fashion photography what so ever. He is a portrait photographer and not a particular great one at that. Would you ever see Nick Knight, Craig McDean, Steven Miesel on T4 with June Sarpong?! No, because they have class and sophistication and no desire to promote themself to the world. Everthing that couture fashion photography is about. I hope I dont anoy any one with these comments but it really is about time some one said something about Rankin. He is riding on his own free ticket people which without, he would be nothing. Who cares about eyes?!!! Just more 'pretty images'! No different to the landscaped I used to look at in crappy photography magazine with free tuition on Photoshop!! P.S. Sorry about the grammer, in bit of a hurry

Oh yeah...and he has his own publishing company too to publish his work. 'Vision On'. Ask yourself, why does he need his own publishin comapny! It is A. because no one else would publish his work and B. Because he is a businessman first, photographer second!
No Phaidon, no Taschen, no Vogues, no i-D, no visionaire, no numero, no magazine...just pictures of Ant & Decetc etc
When was the last time you read about him that was'nt in his own magazine?!
