On a Tangent
Robett Lenkiewicz the artists settled in Plymouth after leaving Londfon. Over many years he created quite a ledgend around him self as well as his work. He befrended down and outs as well as doctors, and people from all social circles.He befriended a down and out called Diagiones, after diagiones died Robert had the body preserved and hidden away in his studio.The body of an 18th century witch was also found in the studio.
Robet fatherd at leat 19 children 16 to witch he owned up to. He would come out with stories to shock the local people as well as create new headlines in the local papers. After his death he left 5 Million pounds most of which went in to legal costs of settleing his estate. I took this picture of Robett and Ludinda in 1993 when Lusinda was pregnant.
It was taken in black and white on medium format negs and hand tinted to Sepia toning and then digitised.

Robert Lenkiewicz was jewish and was effected by issues that went on during the Second world war.
He was a prolific painter and would paint untill the early hours of the morning.
There was never a shortage of beautifull women, some of them worked for nothing as hosteses in the public Barbican studio.
He had other studios that where private spread across Devon.
The Barbican studio was like going in to the Tardis it was on the third floor of a set of stairs which lead from the Barbican.
One the ground floor going up was a library of books covering every aspect of Human bahaviour, religion, obsessions,sexuallity, politics,philosophy,poisens, etc.
Then it would open up on to the top floor with paintings on every space of the walls, as well as being stacked on top of each other at ground level.

He preferd to paint beautifull women usualy drest in silk dresses and went in to minute detail when painting the materials.
He was very excentric and always gaining headlines in the local papers. One of the statments he came out with was that he had 16 children and did not have the emotion of love with any of them,
This got womens groups in a rage.
The story of his life would make a great film from someone like Greenaway, Bawdy with humer
