The timing of this is very strange, right before the Olympics, as if there is a force to push China to become more self critical, more quipped with modern management, and less complacent with existing development. This is all very important in making China modern-from inside and out. The earthquake is such a tragedy, to loose every thing in a split second, but I believe in the long run, when such a tragedy takes place when China is trying to become better, would be a big tipping point where many department and local officials would shape up a lot more from now on. I could foresee after this Chinese gov't would spend tons of money improving infrastructures of the southwestern region, which was and has been the region which is very difficult to develop. Right now the govt has been focusing too much on coastal cities and not enough on rural region.
