Perhaps it's changing already, with so many people who can run their business with a home office, work online, do work on a laptop. What used to be viewed as appropriate dressing is no longer the case in many environments. The fact that in the Bay Area, California, the upper middle class, and many professionals are more enthused in buying home furnishing than buying clothes is a big indication that many people are more into quality of life, and that has nothing to do with being fashionably dressed.

To reject fashion is also to reject the system. We all embrace our personal styles, and enjoy observing people who are creative with clothes. Fashion magazines perhaps done more disservice to creativity and individuality, when its' function is to report trends, and what's considered in or out, just look at the models, they have standard features, they look very similar in body shapes. Fashion industry, from magazines to manufacturing, all supports this existing system of selling stuff, so perhaps we need to turn away from the fashion press as well? If you have ever lived in a small town where it's not easy to buy international fashion magazines, where the location is far away from any metropolitan cities, and the locals are into doing their own arts and crafts, you would find that way of life to be extremely civilized and creative and less burden. The big city life is about conforming to the system. The system is set up to make you think you can't live without it.

The most creative thing could be stop buying new things and deal with what you have and create something refreshing everyday with what you already have, most women after the age of 33 or even younger reject fashion because they learn who they are and they realize they don't need to buy things in order to stay hip, that hip is not important as far as being a human being.

Then they wouldn't be trying to reject fashion!
In rejecting fashion (as I've said before) we learn so much about how fashion influences our lives. It is a view of fashion & culture from completely different perspective.
I AM rejecting fashion, and apart from the odd urge or pang here and there I have been very successful in this, & it has been a hugely rewarding experience.

I strongly advise all of you to try it too. If you need any advice from my experience please ask.

What have you done specifically to reject fashion? I don't really reject it, I don't really follow trends, but there are occasions when I need to dress a bit more sharp for professional attire when I would pay some attention to fashion, like the cut of the jackets and pants, since I don't want to look too outdated. But in general, I am in a very casual mode and do whatever that fits my lifestyle and myself. I have much less interests in reading fashion magazines now. It's been a few years, I am finding lots of repetitions in fashion and I don't see lots of really, really great ideas out there, I really just study the art of fashion photography when I read the fashion magazines, and for what I do, I need to know what's going on in fashion, but I don't feel the need to know the trends for my personal interest. I don't feel the need to go shopping whenever a new trend is announced by the fashion press, such as the skinny jeans or the balloon skirts. I only buy new clothes no more than 3 times a year, and so my fashion spending is no more than 200 dollars a year.

I try to identify how fashion how fashion affects my thoughts and actions and then try to reject this influence. It is a process which leads to all sorts of fascinating places.

I can wear whatever I like and still that is fashion. Fashion doesn't mean stuff on runways, season collections, or anything designer...it is simply how you cover yourself and your modesty.

When we decide to only wear our skin and only our skin, maybe we have rejected fashion...but when everyone does that it becomes the trend.

There is clothes and there is fashion. These are two separate and different things.
