I agree that print advertising is looking a bit dull at the moment... sadly. :(

Scarlett Johansson's unique but actually not very pretty face has been overexposed by Louis Vuitton. I've seen too much of her.

There's a new Versace perfume ad which looks like they didn't even try. it's simply a model looking mildly sex-haired.

I suppose Global Warming Ready takes top honors, it's surprising, well executed and quite inventive.

I have also enjoyed Balenciaga, Prada and Bottega Venetta.

Versace never tries, their print ads are always very safe. Very Miami big hair tacky.

When Gianni was alive their print ads were much more interesting and provocative.

Gianni was the soul of Versace......that is the difference between a ' Fashion Label ' and ' Fashion '.....

KaiWai you SAID it!! Yes. I pretty much loathe Versace, everyone from the excessively blonde-and-tan Donatella on down. It's the worst of Italian fashion plus Miami, like you said.

Paralleling Galileo's Universe, I wonder what will happen to Valentino after the old man goes. It might turn out to be the same thing as with Versace, a meaningless name continued by someone inept... that'd be horrible. Valentino is such a respectable old label with their couture and all.

The more provocative ads are often those with references to history or art or folk legends. Rather than just having a pretty girl looking pretty. Old Versace ads were often intellectually challanging, so were some old YSL ads. This season so far I don't remember seeing any fashion ads that are intellectually challanging.

You've hit the nail on the head !...the ads have become really bland and absolutley predictable...Beneton was the only one around....giving then a lot to think and talk about....

I remember the Dolce & Gabanna ads from a few seasons ago being pretty challenging- English romanticism, ruins, statuary, plus violence and sex (the old D&G standby) but it made for something that was anachronistic and cool.

Buberry ads, however, are pure kitsch.

i have an increasing affection for the American Apparel ads, they aren't amzing or a revolution (what is this seasn?!) but they do seem a slight tiny bit more heartfelt than most.
On a completely other note I liked seeing Irina in Chanel.
Worst ads would be an interseting list,my vote goes for the Juicy Couture ads in print and Virgin Broadband with Uma Thurman on T.V.

Am I right that the Americal Apparel campaigns are shot by the owner of the brand (...of his own employees dressed in the sort of 'tap pants' worn by pubescent majorettes)?
