look in the january american harper's bazaar (can you get that in the UK?) and there are pages and pages of "homme pour le femme", exactly what you're thinking of doing... such as roberto cavalli, dsquared, akris & brioni.
incidentally, quite a lot of womens' now- excepting dresses, skirts, blouses, and heels- is ripped-off menswear from the 20s... remember what chanel got famous for: retailoring men's clothing for women. so really it's a very old idea.
i'll be impressed if you can get something out of it that doesn't look like cabaret attire.
