After having wondered through the internet highway for so long...looking for a forum in which artist from different disciplines could have the chance to interact...explore ideas...and inspire each other...I suddenly by matter of destiny or chance came across ‘Show studio’....My first reaction was...here I can find people who really care, do care...and yet after having carefully read so many different threads...from the totally “nonsensical”....”banal” and intelligent food for thought......I realised now how far fetched my idealism is/was.....or call it pure naivete...if pure still exists !...
There is so much going on today...so very much..and like Moby’s song
goes........’Everything is wrong’.....but that is a different subject in itself......What really caught my attention was the manner in which people treat each other in the forum....from outright rudeness, unkind statements, pre assumed well documented superiority and a lot of patronising...and yet here we are among creatures whose opinions are sometimes well documented, inspiring and worth reading......and foremost active members in different creative fields
I was totally shocked when reading the attacks on Show studio itself and its defendants.....The heated discussion that the work of fashion designer Gareth Pugh ignited was incredibly reading........The whole discussion involved (without being aware) something interesting that has been going on in society...something that so few artist seem to be able to translate and develop the right vocabulary for.......Gareth Pugh (in my unimportant and irrelevant opinion) is someone tuned to the right vibes...and yet he was in that discussion literally shred to pieces...beginning with SHOW’s project about him and ending with Gareth’s extremely creative, great aesthetics and beautiful work of great importance, managing to catch the attention it deserves not only in fashion but also in art ( whatever art means to different people)...I do not know him and I do not care to know him because personalities do not impress me.....only their work.....so not to be accused of being a whatever.....what I care about is his brilliance.......and brilliance deserves to be nurture not tortured
Some of the points made in that heated discussion had validity and relevance too to certain extent...and yet we forget that every era is different...perceptions are different....urgencies are different...graphics are different, beauty is different, even the colours are ever so different ...and people with vision and understanding of his/her subject deserves a platform............. not just people with knowledge or know how or hype for its own sake
.....having said that.......I hate to be partisan to anything....because it can blind very easily.....to be open to every thing is the key forward and to finding understanding in such a complex society as ours today, however ‘idiotic’ the idea may seem at that point in time................Everything develops and moves forward to give place to a new thought, idea, aesthetics.......and yet you will be making a grave mistake by comparing.....for comparison in the wrong context only leads to obstruction...
I will not be coming back to the the forum as I see how much people’s egos seem to get in the way....my advise....take your ego off....fold it carefully....wrap it and place it where no one can find it....because it is just to cumbersome to wear it.....and be free......as free can be......
