It's not even that, I just discovered her voice, and I had read a little about her, but I didn't know that much, but hearing her sing-in the live performance, confirmed the praises I had read from many established and respected singers and performers that she is the real deal.

.... who can argued against that ! :):) .... stars are simply born .... and rather utterly impossible to make, if even for a short brief moment ...... that's for sure

Last night a progressive late night radio talk show host in the U.S.(he was talking about the rise in the numbers of AIDs since the cocktail drugs and the politics of it in the U.S.) was playing Amy WInehouuse cd 'Back to Black" on the show, and he was saying "go out and buy it...who knows how long she will live...if she continuse to live the way she lives..." The CD is getting mainstream attention in the US now, talks of numbers of Grammies she will be receiving. Her music, this CD is getting attention in the US because it's been written about as a really great CD and she is being written about as someone with incredible raw talent that's just impossible to miss, the US audience don't really know that much about her, and I think unimpressed by any of her drug problems, I think people who are paying attention to her in the US are just blown away by the quality of her voice and the quality of the CD. No one here talked about her as responsible for being a 'role model' for young people.

.... I don't know if you are aware of what is going on about her private matters right now ( impossible to avoid because is always at the top of the news ! :):)... but it seems that people have developed a kind of a weird stimulus for voyeurism and encouraged to certain extent with a misguided sense of purpose as i see it ...... when reading the ' news ' about the latest saga in the matters of parents and children relationship ...... as in her case ....

She is so talented, people who really appreciate her music don't really care about her problems and will always give her another chance, she is really unique.

... yes quality ! and not quantity is what really matters... and she has true quality in her art, and indeed she doesn't fit the image that people might expect , rightly or wrongly... but very often real and rare beauty can be found and appreciate in imperfection, as in the element..... human.... It is all about personality and all what comes with it ... perfection and imperfection ...

Amy Winehouse had a great voice before the beehive and the drugs and tattoos. She went to a stage school in Croydon I think and trained professionally to sing that way and mimic the singers whom she loved. She didn't just spring out of her teens a Soul Diva..its all carefully planned.
People who talk about sexism, well, Amy is in every paper at the moment I think BECAUSE of it.. Members of the male press love a mess they can vilify - a comparitive fall from grace...Think Marilyn, think Britney...these once sweetly innocent-looking "icons" hounded by the paps and their inevitable downfall.
But why IS it always inevitable..these women who end up destroying themselves are the ones who are always held up as examples of Cool, Fashion and Myth because they're the flowers that die in the end, and men or even people in general seem to love that tragic narrative.
The question is whether this is a deliberate device created by Amy (or Blake)..to get attention...because she didn't used to be like that, she didn't need to be like that to be a recognised singer for her talents, and she's even more successfull now that she is. Ka-Ching?

Like I said, I'm not knocking Amy's talents as a singer because when she puts her mind to it, she can pull amazing things off, but I for one am getting really bored by all these privelaged little uppity madams destroying their lives because of the pressures of fame...i'm sick of reading about how amy roams around london half dressed, who cares? someone call a shrink for her and be done with it, "normal" people wouldn't get away with that..*sigh*

I had read a bit of music magazine articles, and saw her live performances on stage, and heard some of the songs in "Back to Black", I think Amy would have been the same had she lived in earlier era. I think she is at this point in life when she needs to live like this, some young people just are like that, and she is still very young. Her songs are great, she sings with her heart, when she is sober. You can't fake emotions. That's what I am after when I listen to her, authenticity and originality in the works. Of course when she started learning she would have immitated her idols' style, doesn't matter, now she has her own voice and style. She is an artist, who is "not afraid to show her vulnerbility". The tabloids really exploit her demons and her personal troubles in order to make a buck. I pity her when I see her strung out knowing her tremendeous talent. Fame can screw you up, when you already have certain weaknesses in the personality. Whitney Houston is another one with tremedous talent, the industry would always wait for her comeback, and be patient with her, because she is so talented.
