what is this, a pot-shot at postmodernism? i don't agree. while i'm not a postmodernist, it sounds as if this prof has gotten a little old and stodgey.

I found an interesting article about a professor who held a competition to find 'the Worst Argument in the World' based on a) 'its intrinsic awfulness', b) its widespread acceptance and c) the degree to which it has escaped criticism.
Here it is:
We can know things only:
-as they are related to us
-under our forms of perception and understanding
-in so far as they fall under our conceptual schemes etc
THEREFORE,
We cannot know things as they are in themselves

There it is, the WORST ARGUMENT IN THE WORLD!
I thought it was interesting and kind of funny at the time. Not so much now though. I don't want to start a flame war on postmodernism, especially now. If political threads are going to start, something more relevant should be discussed...like 'should Bush be impeached?'. Not even, more like 'How can we impeach Bush?'.
by retaking the house and senate in november... direct your contributions to the democratic national committee, and if you live in the US, vote democrat!!

I read somewhere that the Republicans' strategy is to lose the November House and Senate elections so that they can within a short time prove how bad the democrats are [through the usual tactics] and then win the election again in two years!
Vote REPUBLICAN!
there was something in the atlantic monthly about how some strategists on both sides have said privately that they would prefer to lose this time, because the country's problems are intractable.
in short, i'm SO glad i'm not in politics
