Fashion is not ART,but fashion is born from an artist that is giving a suggestion wrap in a promise.Art can and will be FASHION as often as it likes.Fashion can only be what it knows: BEAUTY and FUNCTION. ART would never conform to such simple rules, the artist conforms to the demands of the consumer.This is how FASHION is born, without a birthright to it's source (an artist stepchild)no blood relation.

Hum ... there was this HUGE discussion about this on a fashion forum ... this is deep ... I mean ... at the end, I'm undecided ... I think I gave some ground because I strongly believed it was/is a form of art

Fashion may be creative, but it's not art. I think some designers, such as Hussein Chalayan manage to blur the lines between art and fashion. It is also apparent that fashion and art feed from each other, and often have a close relationship. But they are essentially, 2 totally different entities.
McQueen has some interesting things to say on this matter in his 'In Camera' interview in the Showstudio Archive:

Alexander McQueen: I think fashion has been put more on a level with the entertainment industry. I don't think fashion and art as two separate entities really combine. Fashion is more to do with entertainment.

Alexander McQueen: Fashion is like any entertainment industry. It's fickle. I've always seen it in the same light: shallow.

Fashion is art if art is what is created purposefully by an artist, i.e. fashion is art if creation is art?
