I have known a couple of people who have attended Antwerp Royal Academy. It is one of the most prestigious fashion schools around (or maybe The most prestigious depending on who you talk to) and generally considdered one of the hardest to gain entry for. I briefly visited the Academy a few years ago before they built the Musium of fashion (contained in the same building) whilst doing some show work backstage for Bernhard Willhelm-himself a graduate in 98. It appears to be the most serious of schools and a degree from there is very usefull for gaining employment in that area as well as the extremely high level of pattern cutting skills etc. they have an international reputation for.
I didnt study fashion there or anywhere else so its only my impression im giving you, but i remember when a friend sent off for information packs from all the schools and all the packs arrived, glossy trendy looking booklets and the one from A.R.A was plain and picture free with a huge list of areas to be covered and it seemed the most hardcore of all the schools, emphasis on content not style!
What i can definately say is they get you some serious work placements (my friend helped both B.Willhelm and Dries van Noten in one week.)
Im constantly amazed by the quality and origonality of the graduates of this school but its not for the student wanting a 'relaxed environment'

i just looked at the website www.antwerp-fashion.be and the second years work is mindblowing. it's like they've started where mcqueen left off - without making it look at all tired or rehashed.

I have been a member of the jury at the Royal Academy and have had the pleasure of sharing the FFI van with teachers +++ Linda Loppa, who happens to be the President of FFI and Patrick de Muynck and what can I say, they are the best. Also, how can you go wrong with Walter as your teacher? Give it a try, what do you have to loose?
