Showing messages 1–5 of 5

Hello!

Im moving down to Berlin for a few months to studie and I wonder if you guys feeling at home in berlin can help me. Where to stay and where to go and so on. I've been looking around on the internet with little luck, so maybe you can help me out?

I adore Berlin, I was there this summer and had the best time. I mostley hung out in Mitte and a little in Krützberg, but it feels like I only scrathed the surface. So if you know anything worth checking out please tell me!

Cheers William

Berlin's fascinating, you'll have a great time. So many layers of history. They say Paris is always Paris and Berlin is never Berlin. I love a lot of the areas that were part of the old East Germany, like Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain. There are heaps of good restaurants and bars in those areas, and the Soviet communist remnants in all the east areas are really interesting. A nice bar is KMA 36, which is on Karl Marx Allee, #36 - converted from the entrance to what seems like a former communist-style office building. The Scheunenviertel area in Mitte is a nice place to kill time in cafes. German food tends to have a bad rep, but there are heaps of good places. Gugelhof in Prenzlauer Berg is great - the decor's pretty boring but the food is impressive.

Hey William,

If you want to go out for a night, try the golden-gate club, it's brilliant.
In case you are looking for cheap clothes or want to get rid of yours, go to the 'Umsonst-Laden' in the Ackerstrasse. You can either bring your clothes there or get clothes (for free) - swapping is not allowed! So either bring or take, not both.
'Cafe Moskau' is quite nice, see if you can track it down, can't remember any street names...hope that helps, enjoy your stay.
