Dunno about that mate, what you have to bear in mind is the industry is meant to be hard work, you are meant to have lots of knock backs - it all makes you stronger and want it more. If it doens't then it's not what you should be doing. And when you do start getting the breaks, you appreicate them more becuase you've earned them.

A 17 year old can be just as creative as a 25 year old, but probably lacks maturity, sense of life experience etc. so I would think that would put people off. I'm sure the creativity element was never in question.

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH U!!!!Im actually 17 myself and design clothes in my spare time, i take art and textiles at A level and near enough live and breathe fashion. Ive been looking for months for a part time job or work experience within a fashion company but everyone turns me away because I don't have a degree qualification or coz they think Im too young and fragile. In some respects I understant why but you'd at least think they'd give me a chance!? :(

I knew that i wouldnt be the only one!!! I think they forget when they were young and they wanted top learn from and work with the industry! They need to keep in touch with the young generation because eventually we will be in their shoes doing what they do when they are no longer working and even alive (no offence)!!!!

Why should they give a person with no experience and no degree a chance ? There's plenty of designers with degree's and experience who are looking for a chance. Unless you aren't an exceptional talent or a selfmarketing genius, i'd try going the common route of getting a degree in the arts and design field, thus upping your chances of getting noticed.

What i mean to say is, you'll most probably get more of a chance, if you have a degree. Of course it works without that, in some rare cases, but i wouldn't bet on it.

Pony has a good point. Why do you think you need instant recognition anyway? If you have talent then the recognition will come eventually as you inevitably get older. You'll only be a responsibility-free 17 year old once in your life, just enjoy it.

Im not talking job wise, we KNOW we are only 17 and the rest, all we ask is that we are given a chance to learn from the industry a little hands on work experience something you cannot learn from text books, reasearch etc. We dont expect a flippin high end job just a little look into the industry FREE OF CHARGE. Everyone deserves a chance.People who say that they dont deserve this because they dont have a degree is pathetic! What if you dont have the means to go to University and you come from a not so handsome lifestyle does that mean they dont deserve a chance? That is the attitude that i cannnot stand if someone is ambitious, determined and creative they deserve a chance at least.
