The most groundbreaking idea in the last 2 decades-for me, is the idea of microfinance, granting small loans to poor people with no collateral. It made perfect sense, and I think one of the most innovative, creative solutions to solve the problem of poverty, help people who want to help themselves, and not just give handouts.

Technology of digital downloading of songs, it completely revolutionized the business, it threatens the entire way of distribution of songs for the record companies. It gives new powers to independent musicians.
Mobile phone, the technology empowered rural villagers, they no longer have to depend on the govt in order to keep contact with the outside world. There was a village protest/demonstration in China where the organization was done largely by villagers through text messaging, they were able to bypass the censorship of the local officials.
