I like that. But I really like the exhibition idea as well maybe we could figuire out a way to incorporate the two?

There's been a big brainstorm this end today and we came to the conclusion that it would work on many levels but having everyone on board on some level would be great.

So we've set up an e-mail address for this. creative.interpretations@london.com

Everybody who is genuinely interested please drop us an e-mail with any ideas or critisicms or anything whatsoever. I don't want this to be limited simply to photography either.

I'm unfortunately away on a job from Friday afternoon til Sunday night, but we are having a meeting on Monday to discuss it further. If anybody wants to offer any opinions etc on that please do.

Thanks for the encouragement, I went out on a limb a bit with this.

Ben

I've got to go away now, back Monday. Andrew Woffinden (I think) e-mailed with a great idea about the brief simply being 'London'. Thats it. Peoples interpretations of that in any particular medium they choose. It's not amazingly inspiring but I like it because of the simplicity.

Any thoughts on that over the weekend?

I suppose London might be fitting in regards with your initial
claims on it being all off and dull. And it is wide is uppose- but is it not quite important that it also is inspiering to you?

and another thing- it might be a bit excluding hence all the peops not living it up in the city- OR it might be interesting to get their perception of what London is about- what does any non- Londoners think in regards to that?

Might be harder for people who do not live in the UK to come up with ideas on the brief ''London'', although different cultural interpretations might be interesting. My relationship with London is a nostalgic one (i knew it well in the 1970s and quite well in the 1980s, modern London is, more or less, unknown to me), so the work would probably have a very personal, nostalgic edge *thinking out loud*

''Melting pot'' London ? Internationality, much like this board ?

I feel it's harder to work with that theme, if i'm not there (physically, in the UK), but i also have strong personal historical connections, so for me it would be interesting to dive into that end and work from a strong emotive point of view ... as i won't be able to photograph specific things in London, unless you buy me a planeticket ;)

How simple do the others, who do not live in the UK, find the brief ''London'' ?

Note, i'm not against non simplicity, but i'm thinking ''London'' might be too specific for non Brits. Correct me, if i'm wrong.

Maybe, I kind of wanted to do a brief that was a bit deeper. But I'm not going to come up with it...

I think you already gave us a deeper brief by thinking out loud.

In the last few weeks I've been writing letters to a dear friend of mine telling her many of my childhood memories. I've found that a lot of these have strong visual significance on a very simple level; light, colour, shape etc. They are universal elements, so it's not location specific.

I can't think of the right word I'm aiming for, but hopefully you guys get the gist of what I'm trying to say.

Thats what I'm on about, final word for me for a few days otherwise I'll miss my flight but similar level to that - I teach photography to 'kids that don't read good' for use of not wanting to sound like a wannabe mother teresa, and many of them are dyslexic or autistic so I had to come up with a way of teaching, aperture vs Shutter speed using a colour chart as opposed to numerical additions and subtractions. It works and again the visual significance is so incredibly relative. Ideas like this and that (!?) I like.

Anyhows, off now, good luck with ideas, maybe it's worth anybody interested coming to the gallery next week for a brainstorm?
