Or do you recon that is a waste of money? If it is good help,in getting a kick start, where does one find such a magical helper? Does agents have their own agencies? Excuse my ignorance, and Norwegian naivety- hihi.

Agents, for photography in my experience are a real nightmare unless you find someone on a good wavelength with what you are doing. There are countless pony agencies at the moment that are not worth the time and mokeying around young, and good artists so I'd leave well alone!! x

Hello Ben.
How did you manage to get established? At the moment I am still trying to break down the doors as well as trying to get a book published on culture and lifestyle based around the beaches in the South West of England in that CK Style. I have the pics but am trying to get a publisher, I have tried South West Arts but un less you seem to be doing something extrealy whacky or very conformist to the extream its like blud out of a stone, I have been moving culture lifestyle art csards in shops down here but not enough at the moment to get established and make a living.
That is why I have mentioned it in the forum before.
I am also trying an agent on commission only but it has come to nothing at the moment
Lat year I produced a dvd on artists in this . area also, which includes the exentric artist I have talked about in this forum. I am realy in to multi media, culture and every aspect of fashion lifestyle.

I assisted for a fair while then broke out and moved to paris to put together a book (all this after dropping out of uni), took out a loan, bought loads of kit, spent long winters trapsing around magazines doing appointments, coming up with ideas, going insane...

There's no particular route I don't think. I tried to go a bit die hard with breaking through, but probably lost my early twenties because of that.

Going to see and pester agents is wrong though, I find if an agency is good, is on the pulse and likes what you do, they will come to you.

An agent is only as good as their clients. Once you start with an agency you are no longer in total control of your career and there are numerous people editing your books and painting the picture of how clients see you. That is not always a good thing either.

For every plus point of having an agent, there is a minus.

but to come to you- they will have to know of you right? I´m currently working on setting up my first website,so i suppose that should be a start in getting on display, right?

I guess so. I find every shoot you do which is interesting ,send low res to your clients and to people to build a rappor with. But sure, websites are good. I'd concentrate on your book more though.

So what do you do then?

just finnished off my masters in visuall communication. So i´m kinda in the midst of figguring out what i´d rather focus on- hence doing a subject that involvs pretty much what ever you want it to. At the moment I´m working on some product design and the website to try and "push" my makings.
