OK I am in overdrive to turn things around and hope to have an interesting portrait here soon, shot two weeks ago using leaves.
As well as possibly doing a photo shoot in London in December.

hahahha....! I wouldn't call it wise. I would call it just common sense, but I tell you who I believe was truly a wise man.....Mahatma Gandhi....he , totally, totally eschew violance...and no matter how important, urgent , honest. earnest and convincing his cause was !....that indeed is true and real wisdom....
I wish everyone thought just like him !, them our planet perhaps would be just 'Heaven on Earth'....and then there would be time for more ' heavenly ', great and truly cool things to do with the little time in space allocated to each and everyone one of us ... and while we can still breath the pure air... that is still left !...:):):

Hello every one. Sorry for my elusive nature (GU). I guess I am more interested in other peoples opinions more than my own (not sure what that says about me). I like to lay seeds and watch how they grow. I will make an effort to follow up my comments.
I was having a very philosophical day when I posted this message. I think to myself a lot! Probably too much if I am honest. People have said that to me in the past. Anyway, I was thinking to myself how strange it is, and funny (and I fear this is not a thought that is at the forefront of society’s conscience) that people fall in to a ‘standard’ way of living. So many people excluding entrepreneurs and a few others limit themselves in so many ways by falling victim to the boundaries their careers have put on them. All because it is what we have been taught to do.
If you really think about it we are all so capable of achieving truly amazing things and yet nearly the whole world says (subconsciously) to themselves in an auto pilot manor NO! I am an accountant, I finish work at 5.30, an accountant is who I am. And therefore let that definition cap their achievements. So many people wish they had more money but if they could see that they have no reason what so ever to limit themselves to the boundaries of a ‘career’ then they could all be millionaires!
Look at art for example. The idea of art is complete freedom of expression. So there are never any standard ways of practice (or at least to any decent artist). People should apply this nature to the way they live and work. I suppose people like to feel safe, but surely it is safer to keep pushing so you get further and further away from the chance of failure?
I am not sure if I am explaining myself very well, but what I mean is that the fact that people define themselves at all is a very unproductive act. Why do we feel it necessary to define ourselves (i.e. Teacher, Lawyer, Bus Driver)?
I suppose my afterthought is that people should fight the urge to define themselves and open up a world of endless possibilities! Whether it be financially or creatively etc Does that make sense?
And isn’t it funny when we meet some one for the first time we find it necessary to mention the name society has chosen to define how we make money. For example a person who may be the world record holder for being the worlds strongest man but works part time to fund himself will say ‘Hello, I am Chris, I am a bus driver’. Is it the bus driver that defines him or his strong man achievements?!
We must stop this ridiculous defining process!
:)

Humans are habitual by nature. It is in fact a genetic trait and relates to self preservation. "If I eat that it could harm me, so I'll eat something I know will not." This relates to a lot of things including, but not limited to, relationships, places and careers. I'm not saying people are afraid of what might happen, I'm simply pointing out that 'risk' is not something some want to live with.
I have a friend who works in retail. He is a wonderful person, is content with his position and is working up the ranks at a slow pace, which suits him. Anything above or beyond such a routine causes him stress. It is the routine he feels happy about, so his thought is simple - why challenge it?
You are coming very much from the point of view of select minority of people who challenge their existence with questions of value and meaning.
Some lead, some follow.
In relation to: "...surely it is safer to keep pushing so you get further and further away from the chance of failure?"
The higher you go the further you can fall. An equilibrium is safe.
In relation to this: "We must stop this ridiculous defining process!"
Why bother put an engine in a car, or wheels for that matter?

...and that ' select minority ' must have something called ambition .....the driving force pushing towards the front of the line to enter in what we call ' the hall of success' and not forgetting that then you must be able to ' fit in '....but as Josh pointed out some people feel ok/ alright/ content with being what they are, but have they ever been able to realise what their potential is ?.......I once watched a programme about ...wanting to succeed and achieve almost impossible goals...and indeed you can/could achieve your goal if you want it hard enough... in theory !....having said that....we live in a time where everything is tightly controlled and ....the barriers are greater than at the time when almost anyone, regardless of he happened to be a coal miner, a taxi driver or a bouncer but who happened to have a real voice could then easily become...a top singer... a stewardess or a society lady who could become a fashionable fashion designer without having had any formal training at all and without the opportunity of having great media exposure at first hand, the clients would just swarm in , word-to-mouth, if she was good and exciting enough with her designs to generate the interest....or an artist who could pull it off without having to belong to the any inner circle with the power to make him ' hot '.....
The rules of the game have drastically and dramatically changed as I see it.......if we call it that....!...then again ...the degree of ' ambition ' will always be the catalyst......to become more inventive in order to beat the barries.....reason enough then to drink plenty of ' Red Bull' ... :):):)

Interesting points Josh.
Maybe you're right. Perhaps I am going through a change in my life and starting to challenge myself and my existence in new ways. We are only here once and I cant afford to continue to live by these controlling rules the masses seam to be completely oblivious to.
I have had enough of (like millions) staring in to these boxes in our living rooms hypnotized by the distorted rubbish it produces. The rubbish is completely unproductive and helping me in no way to progress in life. Maybe I will get rid of my television set. At least with the internet you can be more selective with your viewing.
I think there have been some interesting points made. But if I follow my own opinion I think it is sooo easy to become lazy and be a passenger in life. I have had enough of being driven and want to become the driver. Take this one way ride in my own direction. It takes a lot more effort and will be psychologically draining but at the moment a feel like a sheep. All the shelf stackers, factory workers, nurses, police officers, postmen etc all deserve so much more than their defining rolls provide. But sadly they will never get it. So it is time to get off the ride and make my own rules. Tread on toes if needs must and look out for no.1! Become selfish, reluctant to let people in, take advantage of people’s misfortunes for my own benefit. Maybe I wont make many friends in the process but I will stick close to those I know I can trust.
The more I type the more I am convinced. Why why why are we defining ourselves. From this day forward I will no longer introduce myself as a photographer. When I am asked that ridiculous question ‘what do you do’ I will now answer ‘well, I like to read, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, the internet gives me pleasure, I follow various creative disciplines’ etc
In response to Karl Fulers concerns I in no way intend to pick on any one, my examples have been completely random. If anything I had hoped this discussion may have laid a seed in peoples thoughts (for the better).
I am sick of hearing people say I cant afford this I cant afford that. The reason is because you have chosen a path that caps you’re room for growth. The answer is remove yourself from this ridiculous restricting definition and use your creativity to push beyond. Where will it end? It will never end! Enjoy the process and you then have the perfect life!
