But women get criticized more publicly. Kate's drug and alcohol seems a phase that comes and goes and comes again, now she is rid of Pete, maybe she will live a healthier life again.

Both women and men are nowadays criticized. No matter what you have between legs, it is scandal what is important!

But the point is when someone lives an unconventional life, or made unconventional choices, a woman especially, the press like to make her into an example. With men, the scandal blows over much quicker. People just accept men are less reliable and 'boys will be boys'? Do people have higher expectation for women in society? If women are not perfectly domesticated, then the press really comes down on them.

A lot of women work full time now, and single mothers, the children often are raised by babysitters or grandparents or the fathers help out, or all combined. Which in Kate's case probably not too different. She is the breadwinner of the family, she keeps many people employed. Kate's seems very energetic and loves a good time. What's people's ideas of her settling down and takes better care of her daughter? The tabloids would take one picture and one incident and blow it out of porportion.

KaWaI, I agree that the press does focus on women more when it comes to housekeeping responsibilities [as seen culturally]. But that's just it, it's our culture, I'm not saying it's good or bad, it's just is. People in India would have different expectations, people in Sudan, even more different ones.
For me, it's not that Kate Moss works a lot and can't be a good mom that gets to me. It's being in the business and hearing stories directly from people who had to deal with things that aren't proper, especially for someone who has an infant. And she's of an age where you'd think someone with a kid would just focus on some different things. Who knows, anyway.
I think people give her too much credit [I don't think models, any type of models, should receive any recognition for doing what they do].

The attention isn't something a celebrity such as Kate can control anymore, what do you do when there are 40 paparazzis camping outside your front door every morning? What do you do when you have a cigarette, someone took a picture, the next day it's all over the internet, and the media condemning you for influencing teenage smoking? Kate loves clothes, should she start dressing all in sweats so they would stop writing about her?(That might actually work)
Kate is not unique in her lifestyle, Judy Garland with her drug addiction and smoking, Marianne Faithful, Courtney Love, the eccentric people are all kinda nuts, of course these people paid a price for it. But in a way they paved a way for women, whatever that may be, the next woman who does it wouldn't need to endure such scrunity.

Why is Kate Moss famous? Because she added a different beauty factor to the model world. She is not famous because is a drug addict. But press like "THE SUN" is not interested in her work, they are interested in scandal. Scandal sells, that´s all. And they are interested in famous people with bizarre lifestyles. This happens with other famous people, no matter if they are men or women. Even if a dog makes some scandal, they are going to publish about it.
Press here in Spain is worse than in UK. There are a lot of TV shows everyday about gossip...everyday!!! And no matter if you are a woman or a man. They want to sell your scandals anyway!

I forgot to add something:
Everyone can be unreliable. Not only men can be unreliable. Woman, transexual people, shemales, etc; can be unreliable too. It is about the person inner feeling, not about what he/she has between his/her legs!

A woman such as Kate Moss is controversial because of the tabloids made her to be? Or is she just not fit within what's acceptable to people, what they think a woman with a child should behave?
All the controversies are fabricated and manufactured by the tabloids? I hope this discussion won't slip into just about the paparazzi culture, I think Kate the way she lives her life as a single mother is not very conventional. Drugs or no drugs, she isn't the type who would go home right after work.

Everyone can be unreliable, but the media blame more on women who are mothers and seemed out partying. I think men can still get away and women such as Kate would be criticized much more harshly by society, when photos of her having a night out are published.
