I'm in town next week and was wondering what are some suggestions for good, not too expensive food in the Old Street/Shoreditch/Hackney areas, as well as more central. My first trip consisted of a 50 pounds a week budget so I wasn't really able to afford anyhing outside of the overly salted meat and daily rations of chips and vinegar.

This time I'm gladly willing to nourish myself properly and entertain a friend at the same time.

So out of touch... would be glad to hear some responses!

The Hackney area has some great value Vietnamese cafes that serve good home cooked food at reasonable prices.

Don't eat for two days and use the money you save (and the hunger you feel) to dine at Bodeans (http://www.bodeansbbq.com/). You'll bless the day you did.
