Is this the ultimate quest? Is this the most important thing in existance? Is this a modern issue?

....this is a tough one !...there is never the 100% ' fire and waterproof ' answer.....:):):) ...but hey !...I believe there is something in between that I call the
' happy momentum '...moments when everything seems to fit in place...just like a puzzle...and again...when the pieces are blown away by the air of destiny...then it is back again to the game...and get on to put the pieces back together again and again ....
It is in the end.......a puzzle where the pieces never never stay in one solid...secure....place.....

A modern issue? Spare me your mode.

I think it could be considered the most basic objective. Chasing after riches, or honor, or health, are all ultimately for happiness, but seemingly futile.

I find more people in modern times struggle with finding happiness, my grandma who is 93 doesn't talk about it, never talked about it, never seems particular happy or sad, she just does what she needs to do, practical. Now with all the therapists and self help books out there, and more material goods and excitments in medias, people seem lost and can't find happiness and constantly trying to find stimulates and meanings in life.

.... I suppose that it is something like the story about a ' Fisherman and his wife '....the more wishes she got granted from the ' magic fish' the less happy and content she was ..........the more riches and comfort the less satisfied she was ......
Happiness is, I think, in the assumingly 'small and unimportant details ...........'the small details '..... that we humans always...always... seem to take for granted..........

You think the markets created a system in which people feel if they don't have something-the I-Pod, the certain type of cellphone, the certain type of whatever, people feel less than adequate, which results in the feeling of less than happy? If the marketplace didn't focus on the need to have "stuff", would people be less inclined to want to meet certain status quote? The massive marketing didn't really happened until after world war2, and it really changed the way people look at what's necessary to have materialisticly in terms of quality of life.

I agree. Commercialism is blinding. What an orderly world when your eyes are closed, when you are too absorbed in pop culture advertising to think coherently.

... you can have what you want....as far as material things is concerned...you can go to a fancy and expensive restaurant...and play the whole act with a group of friends...who are not really your 'friends '.....but then you go to an ordinary place
meet a totally assumingly ordinary person ...and then you have the most interesting and entertaining conversation ...and then somehow you seem to feel and have certain fulfilment just by exchanging meaningful thoughts....then suddenly you realize that it was a moment really worth it and cost virtually nothing !.........I suppose it all depends on what each individual values most......money ?....fame?....a diamond tiara ?....a yatch ?....an I-Pod?......a Plasma TV ? ...or just a simple ordinary moment to really 'connect'...... and communicate....it is , I think. after all about goodwill and the....spirit......the human spirit.....

Happiness is a natural occuring wealth that many don't see. It is a sense of freedom from letting go. Happiness is lighter than hydrogen! People tend to procrastinate over being happy. Often people find excuses to be happy after doing something.

Billy I like your analygy. Are people too busy now they feel like they need to have all their time occupied and a jack of all trades they stuff their time with mastering this and that and in the end they mastered nothing, and they don't have time to enjoy any solitudes and stop to smell the roses?
