OK over the last few weeks I have come across the words Emo in Plymouth posted on the walls on the Hoe and other areas, I belive that the idenity has possibly come from Utube to the Youth culture in the UK and eventually Plymouth, from what I can make out it is about teemagers being expressive and swinging in any direction.
Where does the culture evolve from and from what Country, what is it based around, I think from what I was saying in other bloggs here where guys where walking with there arms around each other is all part of the Emo ciulture.
Attitude magazine has just done a story on emo boys but I have nothad the chasnce to take a look yet.
So if anyone has any information or back ground to the Emo culture it would be intersting to get feed back

Emo culture is, as far as I know, a spin off of Rock/Indie/Punk culture with a mix of eclecticism. It has been around for a while, in fact a long while. The music tends to be varried but usually melodic punk with emotionally lyrics. Youth culture, including some of my friends from college, are now considered Emo. To be honest the Emo fashion changes so rapidly that it is hard to keep track of where it is at. I have recently heard friends refer to contempory Emo kids as a cross between Chavs and Indie kids. This may vary for other areas of the country though.

Thanks Josh as usuall I am slightly out of touch.
Checked it up on google and the defanition emo comes from the word emotion, where young people are allowed to show emotion and are allways searching for true love, usuaally insecure people of either sex.and are quite expressive in art and music.
I want to follow up the series I have done on goths this year and get more in to proper goth culture, this one seems to be an interesting one to follow up allso. Thanks

You're right, the word emo comes from emotional - here is a pic of a stereotypical 'emo'-scenester...

They like to hang around shopping malls and scare the old folks by crying and being sensitive. Typically they wear all-black - but dont call them 'goth- boy, or you might get a punch in the nose! As I said, they're sensitive!

Punch in the nose I will rememer that, they have just been banned from hanging around the new Drakes Shoping sentre in Plymoputh so now spread there word and true love around the Plymouth Hoe(high ground) and waterfront.

Banned? It's tough for an emo kid. Between disapproval for their frank antics (they make your Benny Hill Show look like Gran's sunday tea!!) and dodging reporters from the New York TImes trying to understand this emo sensation, now they have been banned from public places where they can't even listen to their Simple Plan mp3s and have a nice, little weep in peace. (..sniff)

Yes it seems that the powers that be are getting very carried away with them selves in Plymouth at the moment and are taking a hard line approach to anything that might be slighly exiting in public areas, they have banned swearing in the Drake centre as well as groups of people congregating.
They keep banning skate boarders and BMX riders from areas of the city centre but when you get over weight police officrs chasing young guys on skate boards it all looks rather funny.and could well be a scene from a Benny Hill show. I have said before that Plymouth is sometimes run like a navel base with the authorites this year they have exelled them selves, so far.

I did not quite realise how out of touch I am on somethings. So Emos have been around since the mid 90s at least.
Its just that I have only come across the name over the last few weeks.
