Is this a question, or a rant?
I had a similar opinion about France to yours until I actually went to live there, now I feel about it the same way as I do London - it's a nice place to visit. As an English person and, worse, a woman, with the added disadvantage of looking about 10 years younger than I am (yay wrinkles!) I had a terrible time professionally, constantly being told to fuck off back to where I came from and leave the work to indiginous card carrying penis bearers thankyou. And, apart from the penis bit, that's almost a littoral translation.
Example. I once did a really good reportage, in my own time, with my own money. I then made the mistake of showing it to the people who'd organised the event photographed, thinking they might be interested - and my god were they! I was more or less kidnapped, driven around the countryside around Paris for a couple of hours by the directors of communication and PR while they threatened me with physical violence if I didn't give the exclusive rights in perpetuity to my images on the grounds that if they hadn't organised the event I'd have had nothing to photograph. Shit, if they liked my work THAT much, why didn't they just buy it like normal people!?
Actually, I've dined out on that story, and there are dozens of others I could tell. But that's enough rant from me for this post. And I'm sure there was a point I was trying to make... Oh yeah, shit happens EVERYWHERE - London doesn't have a corner on the market. Voila!
