I finally got to hear samples of her singing. She is truely an amazing voice, and she is a diva, to be able to sing with so subtle emotions, at the age of 22(?), I was blown away by the power in her voice, I didn't expect her voice to be like that. And all the tabloids on her personal problems, when she is so talented, they only enhance her allure. She is one of the most interesting and talented singers right now, and her range isn't just pop, she can sing any genre, she is like Janice Joplin.

Yes, but the trouble is that all her material is like pastiche, which makes her sound like nothing more than amazing karaoke singer.

In reply to Karl Fuler:

Yes, that's exactly what she is. But as an amazing karaoke singer, she's pretty good. Besides, the current climate's not really looking for musical innovation, is it?

In reply to Kirsty Alsopp Fanclub:

Why would you think she is an amazing karaoke singer? She could be singing "Over The Rainbow", or any old songs in her own way, she is a singer and not a composer, after all. IT's about the quality of her singing and her interpretation of the words and melody that matters, no?

Janis Joplin is a preposterous analogy.

Janice and Amy both have amagzine voice, and ability to interpret songs, and words, in their unique way, and Janice was famous at a young age too.

... I must admit that she doesn't seem to get the right material always somehow...sometime ago I went to buy one of her latest CD for a friend and I just decided not to.... I was a bit annoyed at the fact that after hearing some of her new numbers... I just couldn't get Billie Holiday out of my mind.... Billie Holiday as in ... a woman who used to be battered and emotionally tortured by her lover, always pouring her hart out full of sadness and the ever ongoing tales of her human tragedy ... and all very genuine and true indeed in her particular circumstances with no doubt ... And right then somehow I felt that Amy's tragedies couldn't be anyway near to Billie Holiday's because after all .... Amy's tragedies seem to come about out of very her personal, free spirited, carefree and whimsical choices when compared to B.Holiday's case , that's my personal opinion... therefore it felt kind of ... blown up out of proportion and rather less credible in her case , so I thought right then why not buy the original if giving the case I want to hear lyrics about a personal human tragedy :):) :).......but indeed her voice is very powerful and goes deep when listening to the right and interesting material ....

Oh, good God.

Is this the only way we are able to discuss women in the creative realm? Oh, the tragedy! Oh the campery! Oh, the drugs! Oh, the debauchery! It is so depressing. You might as well composite all existing articles about Kate, Winehouse, Billie, Janis, Judy, Liza e t c. up into one super document and publish it as a definitive, inescapable, inevitable thesis on how the career of any female in the public realm will pan out. It's a self-fulfilling prophesy and you -yes you- are all to blame.

These discussions are boring, women-hating, controlling, undermining shite. Ask yourselves why there is no comparable discussion on this forum of men of similar stature and give yourselves a fucking shake.

LOL !.... that's you point of view and you are very much entitled to you own very personal perceptions.. ...well... there is always the choice of making the forum a lot more interesting and less tragic by for example contributing with a topic that perhaps you personally may find, less boring, offensive or indeed more relevant ... no one is stopping anyone to take the lead and elevate the thinking to a more interesting, productive and stimulating level ... the choice is up to each interested individual ... and that is the beauty of it ... don't you think Sandrine ?
I for once would love to read about your thread on ... and I quote ...'comparable discussion on this forum of men of similar stature and give yourselves a fucking shake. ' ... looking forward to it ...:)
